Roof Ice Dam Solutions

Solutions for ice dams on flat roofs can be more elusive than on sloped roofs. Ice on flat roof systems can cause roof collapse if left to build up. More often, ice on flat roof or sloped roof systems will cause leaks.

Ice works its way in to the seams of flat roof membranes, works its way in and under flashing, causes leaks in skylights and roof openings such as roof vents, and deteriorates roof systems.

On sloped roofs, the ice builds up under shingles and melts causing interior damage to your residence or commercial enterprise. Typically, ice dams on flat roofs are due to ponding water, roof drainage issues caused by a failing roof system (deflecting roof system), plugged roof drains or plugged scuppers, or due to some sort of heat loss from the roof system. If ice needs to be removed from your flat roof, be sure the contractor has done it before as the membrane can be damage quite easily.
